Updating the Firmware

The firmware of WolfVision Visualizers and cameras can be updated very quickly and easily with vSolution Link. Every firmware file is validated before it is used for the update process so it is not possible to upload a wrong firmware.

To start the update, select the "Firmware Update..." menu item from the "Tools" menu. It is also possible to start an update from the "Connect To" dialog box which can be reached by selecting the "Connect To..." menu item from the "File" menu by pressing the "Start firmware update" button.

The application will scan for available devices and flag those Visualizers/cameras which don't have the latest firmware version installed with an exclamation mark.

Please note

Flagging devices with old firmware versions only works if the "Enable automatic firmware update" setting is enabled on the "General" tab of the "Preferences" dialog box and a working Internet connection is available because the information regarding the most recent firmware version is retrieved from the WolfVision web server.

By pressing the "Select updatable devices" button all devices with an outdated firmware version will be selected. When you keep the "Option" key pressed while selecting devices you can select several devices for a firmware update. When you keep the "Shift" key pressed while selecting devices you can select successive devices for a firmware update. To proceed with the update, press the "OK" button. In case the application detects missing firmware files in the local repository or newer firmware files on the WolfVision web server a dialog box will pop up which asks you for the permission to update the local firmware file repository first.

Please note

Updating the local firmware file repository is only done if the "Enable automatic firmware update" setting is enabled on the "General" tab of the "Preferences" dialog box and a working Internet connection is available because the files are downloaded from the WolfVision web server.

If you pressed "No" for downloading missing firmware files the update process will be aborted because of a missing firmware file in your local firmware file repository.

You are now asked if you really want to execute the firmware update on the selected devices. If some devices are selected which will receive a firmware downgrade (updated firmware version is lower than the already installed version) the dialog box clearly states this. Press the "Yes" button to proceed with the update process or press "No" to abort the update.

The update process is starting now. To follow the update process a progress bar will be displayed.

When the update process is successfully completed, a respective message will be prompted.

If you pressed the "Cancel" button while the update process was running the following dialog box will inform you which devices need a restart because of the aborted firmware update.

Sometimes an update fails on devices . If that is the case, simply retry the firmware update. In most situations a second attempt to update the firmware is successful.

The firmware update fails very rarely without any comprehensible reason. If such is the case, check connection and simply retry the firmware update. In most situations a second attempt to update the firmware is successful.

Restart of a device after firmware update

Every time a firmware update was executed on a WolfVision device the device has to restart with the new firmware which might take up to a few minutes. The WolfVision device cannot be accessed during this process.

Manual firmware download from the WolfVision web server

By default software checks the WolfVision web server for the most recent firmware files while initiating a firmware update process. If you prefer to manually download firmware files from the WolfVision web server you have to disable the setting "Enable automatic firmware update" on the "Preferences" dialog box and download the necessary file(s) from www.wolfvision.com (Support / Downloads) to your storage device (i.e. hard disk). If this setting is switched off the application will not contact the WolfVision web server while executing a firmware update.

During initialization of the update process you will be asked to specify the necessary firmware file(s) for the selected device(s). Therefore a "Select Firmware File" dialog box will be displayed. Please note that every selected file will be validated first before it is used for the update process. If the validation fails the update process is aborted.
